Edison Services 2.0 is Almost Here!
The IST Solutions Institute is pleased to announce the rollout of Edison Services 2.0 on August 15th, 2004. This new version contains numerous enhancements which will allow you to manage your IST courses more effectively. More specifically, some of the enhanced features provide you with the ability to:
  • Use the new Edison RosterSync feature which dynamically pulls your class list from ANGEL.
  • Have your students communicate with you or other students directly from your syllabus or the Edison My Sections page via IM or email.
  • Customize your online syllabus through the use of the new and improved Syllabus Wizard
  • Customize the course topics, problems, and labs to be displayed on your online syllabus
  • Assign students to multiple teams and multiple team projects
  • Conduct peer evaluations for each of the course projects
If you haven't used Edison Services yet, or simply would like a quick overview of its capabilities, please take a few minutes to view an overview movie demonstrating what Edison Services can do for you.

Note: Due to the significance of the upgrade in features within Edison Services, you will not be able to retrieve syllabi and peer evaluation data from the previous semesters. If you need to retrieve any of this data, please contact us at: elearning@ist.psu.edu

Introducing Online IST Express: IST 421
The Solutions Institute has been experimenting with a new model of facilitation for IST courses. This model is similar to M.I.T's Open Courseware Initiative. Online IST Express courses will consist of complete course designs, including assignments, schedules, resources, syllabi, and grading structures. The primary difference between complete Online IST courses and Express courses is content: Express courses will not have any custom-created content, for example course topics.

For the Fall 2004 semester, we are offering our first Online IST Express course, IST 421: Advanced Enterprise Integration. In collaboration with Dr. Sandeep Purao, we've created a course design for IST 421 that includes 5 labs, 11 cases, and other course resources. In order to access these materials, you may build out a syllabus for IST 421 through Edison Services beginning August 15th. The syllabus comes pre-populated with all course components and resources, and is fully customizeable. If you have any questions or comments about Online IST Express or IST 421, please contact us at elearning@ist.psu.edu
