| Revise of Online IST 110 |
|
A revision of Online IST 110 is currently underway within the IST Solutions Institute. The revision of the content base is necessary to align the content more closely with faculty needs and to refresh the content to keep on pace with current industry trends. We are working with Dr. Amanda Spink to provide the revised content outline and the updates to the course materials. The revise to Online IST 110 will incorporate new, updated, and reorganized content. The revised course will include new content on policy, cognitive information processing, human information behavior, human factors, human-computer interaction, interface design, usability, and Internet technologies. Other updates include information technology terminology and definitions to be incorporated into the information society and globalization topic as well as an overview of network security. Reorganization of the content will result in a course that will focus attention at the outset on the social issues surrounding the information society and wrap up with more detailed drill downs related to component technologies. Online IST 110 will continue to incorporate the fundamentals of problem solving, teamwork, and project management. Plans for revised problem assignments and quizzes are underway. The refreshed Online IST 110 will be delivered Fall 2003 for the entire Commonwealth. Module Zero will also receive a refreshed set of materials. The new Module Zero Topics will cover essential information related to IST in general and will expand its coverage of Project Management. To help students with the basics, we will incorporate an overview of terminology and definitions in Module Zero. The improved Module Zero will also be ready for Fall 2003. Our goal is to provide current content that meets the needs of our faculty. Please take a look at the revised Online IST 110 topic list at http://solutions.ist.psu.edu/exchange/online_ist/courses/110/revised110.html. Please let us know your thoughts on the revised Online IST 110. |

| Online IST 210 Instructor Needed |
|
We are currently in need of an instructor for the World Campus delivery of Online IST 210, Organization of Data. The scheduled start date of the course is mid to late April. The instructor is expected to use Online IST 210 materials designed specifically for the World Campus. Through the World Campus, the course would be rolling enrollment, and the typical contract would be for 1 year. The major technology enhancement to the course would be working with a full version of IBM's DB2. The Solutions Institute is working closely with IBM so that each student enrolled in Online IST 210 through the World Campus would get a full blown copy of DB2 to utilize while working through lab and problem assignments. If you would like more information about becoming the Online IST 210 World Campus Instructor, or teaching through the World Campus, feel free to contact Bart Pursel at bpursel@ist.psu.edu |

| Virtual Office Hours: Utilize IM |
| It's been a long, cold winter. The snow and wind make all of us want to stay locked-up in our cozy houses. So, what do we do if weather or other life events prevent us from being in our offices or keep our students from making it to our offices? Virtual Office Hours! Consider utilizing Instant Messaging (AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger) to communicate with individual students in real-time. You can implement this tool by taking the following steps: - Download and install Messenger software of choice.
- Choose a time when you will sign-in to IM for virtual office hours.
- Provide your students with your screen name and the hours you'll be available in your virtual office.
If you have any questions or comments, IM me (AOL Instant Messenger) at ISTHelp. |
