Penn State IST Internship Program

PA FutureConnect Privacy Policy

PA FutureConnect is a program designed to provide ebusinesses, IT companies, and other organizations with IT needs, the opportunity to tap into Pennsylvania’s undergraduate student population to find skilled, subsidized, part-time employees. The program provides college students in the field of information science and technology with opportunities to gain real-world experiences, enrich their education, and prepare for internships and full-time positions after graduation. In addition, this program also provides a mechanism for attracting and retaining talented students within the state, thus bolstering economic development in the IT sector.

The three primary goals of PA FutureConnect are to:

  1. Provide ebusinesses, IT companies, and other organizations with IT needs, the opportunity to find skilled, subsidized, part-time employees to support their mission and objectives.
  2. Provide undergraduate students in the field of information science and technology with opportunities to gain real-world experience and prepare for internships and full-time positions after graduation.
  3. Familiarize undergraduate students in the field of information science and technology with small ebusinesses, IT companies and other potential employers in the Commonwealth.

How the Program Works:

  1. Interested students and business organizations register online.
  2. Students attend a Professional Skills Bootcamp to prepare them for the workplace.
  3. Students and business leaders attend a PA FutureConnect Placement Fair in their area. This fair provides a forum for individual and group interviews and an opportunity for companies to publicize their products and services.
  4. Companies and students select their top choices.
  5. A Program Coordinator matches students with companies.
  6. Once offers are made and accepted, students begin working fifteen hours a week for two consecutive semesters.
  7. The Coordinator conducts status checkpoints with companies and students to track progress and ensure all parties are satisfied.
